Bird by Bird Mid Week 1 Check In

What have you underlined?

How is the reading going? What are your thoughts so far? Before I post the BIG discussion questions at the end of the week, I want to know…what have you underlined so far? Has anything stuck out? Are you having any aha moments? Let us know below!

@Kslone25 @Paddy @mickey @slmiller Let me know!

My thoughts so far:

  • I’ve always loved the concept of polaroids, and taking things Bird by Bird. But I am bad at following it, haha
  • The whole chapter on perfectionism helped me realize why I’m not writing right now (and I can go into more detail later)
  • Writing a ton of junk just to get 1 or 2 lines of good stuff is advice I give all the time
  • LOVE the headlight analogy
  • The whole thing about the fantasy of publishing, – PREACH. I had to make a whole video about the feelings this inspired
  • Cracks me up when books like this talk about sitting down to write at 9 (or some random time mid-morning). Like, that doesn’t work for the majority of us, friends. If I want to write before work, I have to start at the crack o’ dawn. I know the point is to sit down at the same time every day, and I am also bad at that…

Underlined:
“…keep getting out of your own way so that whatever it is that wants to be written can use you to write it.”

she describes writing as, “telling the truth in an interesting way.” And man, is that both easy and sooooo hard.

“Just take it bird by bird.”

So many more, but I will save them for later!
