Morning, friends. Happy Friday. I have a little tip, a little publishing tip for you today, so I hope you’re feeling super. And here we go. That was a terrible introduction.
Whatever. It’s Friday. I wanted to give you a little tip on a key difference between uploading your book in ingramspark and uploading your book in the Zan KDP and what that means for your timeline when you’re publishing a book. I’ve talked before, I think I’ve mentioned that ingramspark is the only one that will let you order copies of your book before the release. So if you’re having like a launch party on your release day and you want to make sure you have books for that, IngramSpark is probably going to be your best bet.
Amazon lets you do this only two weeks out from your publish date and that might not be enough time to get copies of your book. So keep that in mind. When you upload to kdp, it will tell you if you have errors right away, if there’s something wrong with your cover, if the coloring is off, if the size is off, anything like that. You’re going to upload it and it’s going to go no, tell you right away and you can fix it. Might take 2, 3, 4 tries, which is what happened to me, to get it right, but it is immediate.
Ingramspark, on the other hand, you upload the manuscript, you upload the COVID and it’s like, okay, now in three to five days you will get an E version of your book to review and once you review it, make sure it looks good. Then you can order your author copies. But it doesn’t tell you if you have errors on your cover until those three to five days later when you get that email. I uploaded my book, it looked good, it was not good and I didn’t find out for a few days. It doesn’t take, usually take the three to five days to get the email.
It took me a couple of days, but still, if you’re on a deadline, that’s a lot. Keep that in mind when you are thinking about your timeline, thinking about when you’re going to want to order books. They can take quite a few weeks to get you your books. You want to guarantee that you can have your books in time. IngramSpark’s the Way to go because they are the ones that let you order beyond two weeks away from your publish date.
But keep this three to five day wait time in mind when you are factoring in how long in advance you want to get your book uploaded. Book publishes September 30th. So I’m still well over a month. I’m about a month and a half out, and I’m kind of feeling a little nervous, honestly. It’s a process, so keep that in mind.
And people have asked me about timelines before, and I didn’t remember kind of these little nuances of uploading your book until I actually asked, actually went to do it. So there you go. Hope that helps. Cheers. Happy Friday.
