Hey, friends, let’s talk about consistent creativity. I’m Allison Spooner, author of the Lost Girl and Neverland Story, two collections of flash fiction and a new book coming out in September. But at one point, I was stuck in a pretty deep creative rut where I was not creating anything. And then I had my own little plot twist. A lot of stuff happened, and I discovered some things that helped me get out of that rut and not only start creating, but start creating consistently.
And if you’re a writer, if you’re an author, if you’re a creator trying to make a living by being creative, you need to be consistently creative, right? You can’t just sit around and wait for creative inspiration to strike. You have to fight for it, even if you’re not feeling it. So that’s what I want to talk about. That’s what I’m going to talk about in a series of videos coming up.
The tools that I discovered to help get me out of writer’s block, I have put into a little formula that I like to call the path to consistent creativity. And path actually means something. So what are those tools? In this video, we’re going to go over them quick, quick overview of them. And then I’m going to do individual videos about each of those tools.
And then I’m going to keep posting videos related to each of these tools to help you get out of writer’s block and create more consistently. So here we go. Path. The P in path stands for prompts. Using prompts is a great way to start writing when you’re feeling stuck.
It’s a great way to narrow down your ideas and help you write about things you may not have written about before. I’ll talk more about this when I talk about this tool specifically, but I used to get really, really overwhelmed trying to come up with ideas. And then prompts helped me narrow down my ideas and get writing again. So P is for props. A is for action.
When you’re stuck, the best way to get unstuck is take action. Just do it. Just write. Just do something. Write anything.
And there are a few ways you can do this. You can set deadlines for yourself. You can set word limits, word counts. And we’ll talk more about that when I cover this tool in another video. Where was I?
T he stands for tribe. Finding your tribe, your writing community, is so, so important when you’re trying to create consistently. If you’re stuck, your tribe can be the first place you go for inspiration. They can be there giving you constructive criticism. Just words of encouragement or they can just sit with you and create.
And we’ll talk more about that in another video. The H in Path stands for holistic or holistic health. For me, I discovered the holistic part of the path through yoga and it just escalated from there. But staying healthy, staying active is a great way to make sure that your creative the creative wheels are turning. I do not like the phrase creative juices, so I’m I’m going to try not to say that I don’t like it anyway.
That is the path to consistent creativity. I’m going to do a video on each of the tools and go into more detail and then I’m going to start posting more about these tools and different ways you can utilize them right here on this page. So I hope if you’re not following me you do, and if you are, just stay tuned and follow along. Share this video with anybody you think might need it. Comment below with one of your biggest structures struggles when it comes to creating consistently and maybe we can talk about it later.
See you soon.
