What are proof copies and author copies?

Hey writers, this is a great question. Besides the two weeks prior to your publishing date, I am still investigating this. I may have new information on this situation. Please stay tuned. But do you have to order it a certain way to get it so that it doesn’t have that not for resale line on it?

Great question. There are two different ways you can order your book as an author. You can get a proof copy for you to look at and make sure everything looks good before you publish. That is the one that’s going to have the not for resale sign on it. So the proof copy is the one that you get early and review and says not for resale.

An author copy, at least in the zon, in the KDP dashboard, is just a copy where all you do is pay for the print cost and the shipping cost, so you don’t pay for it at your list price. You pay the print cost and the shipping cost. So that is what you will use when you want to order copies, like for events and things like that. It will not have the line on it that is just a regular copy of your book that looks just like it will for readers, but you’re getting it at an author cost. So that is the author copy of your book.

So this is a great question. Those are the two ways you can get your books early. Please stay tuned. I may have updates on the whole KDP situation soon. Let me know if you have any other questions.
