What is a Street Team or a content team? Street Team.
I’ve never really heard of the term “content team,” but I think it’s probably similar to the others. ARC readers and street team members are kind of used interchangeably, but they are different. So, we’ll start with the street team. A street team consists of people who are going to be your boots on the ground, helping you promote your book.
When you’re recruiting a street team, you’re most likely going to promise to deliver things like marketing graphics, maybe actual paperback copies—early paperback copies of your books—some merch, and social media posts already kind of written for them that they can share to help you spread the word about your book. The street team is like they’re out on the street helping you shout about your book.
This differs from an ARC team.
ARC readers are basically just people who are going to read your book early and leave a review or possibly buy the book for 99 cents in the first week. That’s another technique we can talk about later—dropping the price of the ebook to 99 cents during the launch week and asking your launch team to help you buy that book.
So, ARC readers are just going to read the book early and leave a review during that week. They might. You can tell them that if they feel so inclined, they can talk about it on social media and post about it, but that’s not really necessary. As an ARC reader, hopefully, they do.
For the street team, you give them all those materials so they have the tools they need to talk about and promote it.
ARC readers are just advanced readers. If you’re an indie author, you’re most likely giving them a digital copy of the book early, and they are going to read it, leave a review during launch week, and maybe buy that 99-cent copy for you. Whatever they want to say about the book is kind of up to them. You can encourage them to post about it on social media, but that’s totally up to them.
So, that’s where the street team and ARC readers, as well as the launch team, kind of vary. The launch team is probably a little more like ARC readers or an ARC team. They’re just going to help you; they’re helping you launch the book.
The street team, on the other hand, is out on the street shouting about your book. You want to give them graphics, wording, hashtags, and all the things.
ARC readers are just reading your book early and leaving reviews during launch week. So, I hope that was helpful! You can put more questions in the comments.
